In installation engineering, you always start as an apprentice because it takes time to gain experience in the various jobs. In addition, working with electricity can be dangerous if not done properly, which is why it is important to have someone supervise you.

Freelance electrician
A ZZP electrician is a skilled electrician who works independently. As a freelancer you are not employed by a company, but you are temporarily hired for a project. A freelance electrician is expected to have extensive experience in all trades and be able to do them yourself without supervision. You don’t see freelance electricians without experience, because then you are not a freelancer. As a freelancer, you have extra responsibility for your work and also for your own business operations. - A junior electrician earns €1,600 to €2,000 gross per month
- A medior electrician earns €2,000 to €2,500 gross per month

What is required of an electrician?
A job posting for an electrician often asks for a relevant MBO-level education in electrical engineering or a similar technical education and/or course. In addition, experience in electrical engineering is requested, depending on the level requested. Certificates such as a VCA (Safety, Health and Environmental Checklist Contractors) diploma are also often a requirement, as you need this to work on a construction site.
The personal qualities demanded in a job posting include good communication skills, as electricians often work in teams and need to communicate with clients or project managers. How do you become an electrician?
Becoming an electrician can be done through different routes and at different levels. For example, you can choose a technical direction as early as VMBO and then do advanced training at MBO. Here you have different levels you can do or advance to. Electrical technician: level 2, first electrical technician: level 3 and electrical technician: level 4. This is often a combination of working and learning (BBL). You then work 4 days at a company where you immediately gain a lot of practical experience. The day you go to school you learn all therory focused on electrical engineering. There are also college engineering courses if you want to continue learning after that.
It is also important to keep abreast of the latest technological developments and trends in electrical engineering. Due to the rapid development in this industry, additional courses or self-study can be crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and regulations. Gaining work experience, both during and after training, is essential to refining skills and building a successful career as an electrical engineer.
Future prospects as an electrician
The future outlook for electricians is positive, in part because of continuing developments in technology and a growing focus on renewable energy sources. Demand for specialized electrical engineering skills is expected to continue to grow, especially in sectors such as renewable energy, smart homes, and industrial automation. The transition to renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, is creating an increasing demand for electricians capable of installing and maintaining these new technologies.
